Determination of occupational exposure to benzene

10 Apr 2013

A large measurement study of exposure of operators to benzene and other (organic) solvents.

Client: international tank terminal

We conducted more than 100 air and urine measurements in more than 60 employees. These measurements show the nature, degree and duration of exposure to benzene and other solvents.

In addition to determining the exposure, we also identified the risk activities which lead to brief high exposure levels (peaks), and we evaluated the efficiency of personal protective equipment as well.

For interpretation of the measurement data, a internal and external reference population was included in the study. Besides, several quality checks were built to verify the methods and the quality of the laboratory analysis.
