Ethanol, also known as (ethyl) alcohol, is one of the most commonly used alcohols. Ethanol is often used as a solvent in various applications, and as a desinfectant in health care. Furthermore, it is in alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine.

In the Netherlands, ethanol is classified as a carcinogenic substance. Thus inhalation of vapors and skin contact should be avoided.
