What to do when using CMR substances?

For carcinogenic and reprotoxic substances, additional rules exist compared to regular substances. The emphasis lays on replacement. When replacement is not possible, registration and monitoring of the occupational exposure need a high level of attention. These obligations apply to all CMR substances (Carcinigenic, Mutagenic, and Reprotoxic).

Some of the CMR substances to which exposure may occur regularly: asbestos, benzene, dioxins, ethanol, methanol, PAH.

The government anually publishes a complete list of CMR substances and processes in the ‘Staatscourant’. The list of 2012 can be downloaded below.
